What happens in your cubicle doesn't stay in your cubicle!

More and more offices are using an open office environment exposing everyone to everyone else.

This level of exposure encourages corporate transparency; however, it also places everyone on display. Our best and worst moments are exposed to everyone: a moment of weakness, anger, fear, excitement, silliness, irritability, or worse to everyone in the room. The last thing anyone needs is to be the conversation around the water cooler because of a weak, emotional moment.

When you are stressed, angered, or in any way upset; use care with both verbal and non-verbal communications. Take a deep breath and exhale through your nose to calm your emotions. If the moment is too overwhelming, then quietly leave the area. Go the break room and get a drink and/or snack. If needed, take a short walk outside to get some fresh air. In an open space environment, it is important that you maintain a professional attitude that is calm, non-emotional, and collected. If you must vent, remember to do it in private and avoid being observed at your worst.
